​一句涉台表述，外媒翻译得挺暴力

3月7日，王毅外长就中国外交政策和对外关系回答中外记者提问，成为两会最受外媒关注的发布会之一。

台湾问题是必答题。外媒引述最频繁的一句话是：

台湾岛内谁想搞“台独”，必将遭到历史的清算。国际上谁要纵容支持“台独”，必将引火烧身、自食苦果。

Whoever engage in “Taiwan independence” on the island will be held accountable by history. Whoever in the world connive at and support “Taiwan independence” will get burned for playing with fire and taste the bitter fruit of their own doing. （“外交部发言人办公室”公众号）

把历史喻为“审判者（judge）”是中英文的一个话语共同点，比如“历史审判/清算”。在政治语境下，“清算”是一个语义广博的词，解读空间广（如criticize, denounce, punish......)，官方译文“be held accountable by history”是比较得体的处理方法。

但是，有意思的是，法新社（AFP）、德国之声（DW）等部分外媒把“清算”二字照字面译为“liquidate”：

Anyone on the island of Taiwan who tries to go for Taiwan independence will inevitably be liquidated by history. （DW）

“liquidate”常用在财经语境下，比如“liquidate the assets（清算资产）”；在政治语境下，“liquidate”与“人”搭配时一般意味着“杀戮”“消灭”。参见英文词典释义：

get rid of (sb), esp by killing 《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》

to put to death; kill. 《美国传统词典》

把“历史的清算”这一隐喻表达译为“liquidated by history”，相当于在英译文中把“清算”二字确指/缩指为“wipe out/kill”。

虽说译无定法，但“be held accountable by history”与“be liquidated by history”给英文读者的感觉大有不同，后者多了暴力与杀伐气息。

某些外媒特别喜欢这样翻译，毕竟越刺激越有流量。
